RSHE at TAB Infant and TAB Junior
Relationships, Sex and Health Education (RSHE) forms and important part out our wider Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) curriculum at Thomas A Becket.
Our curriculum supports children throughout their journey from Reception at Thomas A Becket Infant School to the end of Year 6 at Thomas A Becket Junior School. Learning is carefully sequenced so that children's knowledge and understanding develop as they grow.
From September 2026, schools are required to follow the updated statutory guidance for Relationships Education and Health Education. At TAB, we have reviewed our curriculum in response to this guidance while retaining the strong PSHE provision already established across both schools.
How RSHE fits within PSHE at TAB
At TAB, our PSHE curriculum is organised through three broad areas:
Health and Wellbeing / Relationships / Living in the Wider World
RSHE is not taught as a separate subject. Its statutory content is integrated particularly through our Health and Wellbeing and Relationships learning, with important connections across the wider PSHE curriculum.
Through this approach, children learn about healthy relationships, families and friendships, physical and mental health, growing and changing, keeping themselves safe, respectful behaviour, personal boundaries and where to seek help. Online safety is also developed through our Computing curriculum, providing further opportunities for children to build the knowledge and skills they need to navigate the online world safely.
Working in partnership with parents and carers
We recognise the important role parents and carers play in children's learning about relationships, health, growing up and family life. We are committed to being open about what we teach and when we teach it and to providing opportunities for parents and carers to understand our curriculum and ask questions.
