Phonics

Phonics is an integral part of your child’s school day. We teach the children using the phonic programme ‘Letters and Sounds’ and follow the phase order. We also incorporate elements of ‘Read, Write Inc’, using their rhymes to remember many of the sounds. Children in Reception begin with phase 1 and then move through the phases, finishing with elements of phase 6 in Year Two.

Phonics is taught in an engaging and stimulating way, incorporating games and songs to help remember sounds. There is a song for phase 2, 3 and 5 which children learn with actions. There are also sound mats which children have access to in the classroom. These sound mats correlate with the phonic song, allowing children to become independent leaners. Please see the links below which show the sound mats and songs we use in school. Please see the video to find out how to say the sounds correctly.
